Our bike brands prohibit us from selling their product without an in-store transaction (no phone or web sales). Once that in-store transaction takes place, you can take the bike back to your state or country with you, or for domestic customers we can ship it right to your door. Buying a new bike from Flying Fish Bikes while traveling domestically or from abroad is easy!
Florida Sales tax. The state of Florida requires that we collect sales tax, which is 7% in Hillsborough county. However, if we ship your bike via any common carrier from our store to any point outside of Florida, you pay ZERO SALES TAX.
Import duties. Your country's custom office also collects import duties and taxes on NEW items brought home with you. This amount varies based on your country. If you aren't sure of the policies, we recommend contacting your local customs office. We've heard from customers that one common way to avoid or reduce these duties is to ride your new bike while you're here visiting (that's not so bad, right?), then claim it as "used" when you clear customs.
Getting your new bike home. For transport, your bike will need to be minimally disassembled and packed in a cardboard shipping box or, for those who travel a lot with their bikes, a bike travel case can be a wise investment. There is a fee to box a bike for shipping, but we waive this fee for new bike purchases over $1500. Most airlines will accept boxed bikes and they do normally charge a fee - please check with your carrier. Or, we can quote you a shipping rate and we will arrange to have your new bike delivered to your door. Please note that bikes shipped from our store to any point outside of Florida are exempt from sales tax, which often covers the cost of shipping. If you take the bike from our store, then bring it with you on the plane, sales tax still applies.
